How to export and back up your snippets
A snippet library is something you build over months, and it is worth being able to get it out. Export produces a file containing your snippets, in one click. It is your backup, your migration path between machines, and the reason switching away from FlashType later would not cost you your library.
Takes about 2 min
What you need
- A snippet library worth keeping
Steps
Open the export option
Export is a single action covering your whole library.
Save the export file
Put it somewhere you will still be able to find in six months.
Open the file and glance at it
Confirm it actually contains your snippets rather than assuming it worked.
Re-export after any significant change
A backup is only as current as its date.
Worth knowing
- Export exists so there is no lock-in. Your library is yours to take elsewhere.
- Export before a browser reset, a machine change, or any major cleanup of your snippets — those are the moments libraries get lost.
- If you use sync, still export. Sync propagates deletions; an export file does not.
Questions
Can I get my snippets out if I stop using FlashType?
Yes. Export your library in one click at any time. There is no lock-in and no paid tier gating the export.
How often should I export?
After any significant addition, and before a browser reset or machine change. Those are the situations where a library disappears.
