How to install Time Off in your Slack workspace

Time Off is added to a Slack workspace by one admin, who picks an approver during setup. There is no separate portal to configure, no accounts to provision for your team, and nothing for individual members to install — once it's in the workspace, everyone can use it.

Takes about 5 min

What you need

  • A Slack workspace
  • Admin permission to add an app to it

Steps

  1. Have a workspace admin add the app

Adding an app to a Slack workspace requires admin permission, so this step can't be done by a regular member.

  2. Pick an approver

This is who receives requests and decides on them. It's the only real configuration decision at setup.

  3. Choose a channel for the daily digest

Where the who's-off summary is posted each day.

  4. Tell your team the command

Everyone requests leave with /timeoff. There's nothing for them to install or sign up for.

Worth knowing

  • Time Off is free while in early access, and priced per workspace rather than per person — adding a teammate never costs more.
  • It's available in all 12 languages Slack supports.
  • There's no spreadsheet to maintain and no HR portal to log into. If you need formal HR record-keeping, payroll integration or statutory reporting, this is not that category of product.

Questions

Does everyone on the team need to install something?

No. One admin adds Time Off to the workspace and picks an approver. After that, everyone uses it through Slack with the /timeoff command — nothing to install, no accounts to create.

What does it cost?

It's free while in early access. Pricing is per workspace rather than per person, so adding a teammate never increases the cost.
