How to request time off in Slack
Requesting leave is one command. Type /timeoff in any Slack channel or DM, choose your dates, and submit. The request goes straight to your approver as a direct message with Approve and Deny buttons — no form to fill in elsewhere, no email chain.
Takes about 1 min
Steps
Type /timeoff in Slack
Anywhere in the workspace — a channel or a DM, it doesn't matter.
Pick your dates
Choose the start and end of the period you want off.
Submit
The request goes to your approver as a DM with Approve and Deny buttons.
Wait for the decision
You'll know when they've decided, and your balance updates as soon as they do.
Worth knowing
- Weekends and public holidays are excluded from the day count automatically, so a request spanning a bank holiday doesn't quietly cost you an extra day.
- Public holidays are supported across 56 countries, for any year.
- Half-days count as 0.5 rather than being rounded up.
Questions
Do weekends count against my balance?
No. Weekends and public holidays are excluded from the day count automatically, so a week off that includes a bank holiday costs you four days rather than five.
Where do I type the command?
Anywhere in Slack — any channel or DM. The request itself goes privately to your approver, so it doesn't matter where you started it.
